Saudara baru

Which in the local Malay language means new brothers and refers to converts into Islam. But I'm talking about new brothers in Christ which we all received when 2 students from my Confirmation year catechism class and 2 brothers of one of the students were baptized 2 Sundays ago, Orthodox Easter. Besides the 2 in my class, I had also taught the other 2 in special classes in preparation for their baptism.

So Sunday evening, before Mass, the 4 of them, together with 3 children gathered outside the Church where Fr. Marshall greeted them.

After asking them to state their intentions, Father explained the meaning of the Sacrament of Baptism, the laver of regenration by water and the Holy Spirit which brings forth the new birth in Christ Jesus and makes us a new creation.

Besides the kids, there were 3 small children who were also baptized that day.

They were then anointed with oil.

While sealing John's mouth, Father gestured him not to take the meaning of 'open your mouth' too literally. Most of us thought that the sealing should have been done using glue rather than oil. =)

The Light of Christ was then passed on to them by their sponsors. May Christ find that light still shining forth brightly when He comes in glory.

Father then sprinkled all present with Holy Water, to remind us all of our own baptism.

I think it appropriate to end this post with some Stevie Smith, ie a good time was had by all. May God bless all his children, especially these who have now become children of Light. Do keep these saudara baru in your prayers.
