Ora pro eo - Pope Benedict XVI Journeys to Brazil

Please pray for His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI as the journeys to South America, to Brazil, the largest Catholic country in the world.

The Pope is there to open the Latin American Bishops' Conference which meets once every 10 years.

The meeting will be held at the sanctuary at Aparecida, one of the largest Churches in the world.
They are facing many challenges including secularization and the legalization of abortion.

Another challenge for the Church in South America is from sects, flush with cash from their American sponsors, who have enticed Catholics with the Gospel of wealth. Poor Catholics are especially vulnerable. Please pray for them.

The Pope will reside at the Monastery of Sao Bento (St. Benedict) during the duration of his stay there.
He arrived today, greeted at the airport by the Brazillian president and his wife and the leaders of the episcopate.

He was presented with the Keys of the city of Sao Paulo.

His Holiness then retired to the monastery to pray.

He then greeted the thousands who showed up to welcome him.

Keep him, the people of Brazil and the people of South America in your prayers.

Thank you for the wonderful pictures. I especially like the first one just stepping off the plane and the chapel (but you already know I love pictures of the places where Jesus resides with us.)
I will be more specific in my prayers because of your posts.
