Know Popery

After having read about it in Fr. Ray's blog, I went looking around for these photos to amuse you. It seems that our 'separated brethren' in Lewes as well as in other parts of England such as Cliffe have these processions culminating in grand bonfires where the Pope (who was Paul V at the time) is burned in effigy together with Guy Fawkes to commemorate the failed Gunpowder Plot. The Lewes event is the more famous as they even have their own bonfire council.

Those of us who are papist to the core are not amused.

The Cliffe Bonfire Society insists that it is not anti-catholic; it is the only the aggression of Pope Paul V that they do not forget.

Wonder what would happen if Muhammad were traipsed around and burned. If the spirit of fairness, perhaps the good folk of Lewes should give it a try and see if our Mohammedan friends are as tolerant as the Catholics.

I dislike those burning crosses immensely and that effigy of Pope Paul V is really creepy.

I doubt they would even have the guts to burn Muhammad in effigy. They really don't care how it makes Catholics feel to see that.
