The new Bishop of Hong Kong



VATICAN CITY, 15 APR 2009 (VIS) - The Holy Father:
- Accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Hong Kong, China, presented by Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-kiun S.D.B., upon having reached the age limit. He is succeeded by Coadjutor Bishop John Tong Hon.

Pope Benedict appointed John Tong Hon as the new bishop of Hong Kong's Roman Catholic Church after his predecessor in the high-profile post retired, the Vatican said on Wednesday. According to newspaper reports, Tong has hinted that he would take a more flexible approach than his predecessor and seek to bridge Vatican and China ties. He is also expected to become a cardinal sometime in the future.
