Cantata to spread Xmas message

TO spread the joy of Christmas in the community, Trinity Methodist Church Petaling Jaya will be presenting a Christmas cantata on Dec 16 and 17 in the church.

With All Is Calm, All Is Bright as its theme, the cantata will focus on the message of peace, love and hope, and the reason for Christmas.

The Sanctuary Choir, comprising 40 people aged between 18 and 70-plus, including two narrators and five musicians on piano, keyboard, drums and violins, will perform the cantata.

The Sanctuary Choir will be presenting the cantata.
The cantata is a tapestry of music from familiar carols and other heart-warming songs.

It will include instrumental sections, narratives, choruses, solos and duets, weaving the Christmas story.

Music conductor Debbie David said with all the commercial takes on Christmas, people often forget the true message of Christmas and the birth of Christ.

Drummer Christopher Sam is the 18-year-old member of the choir.
“We want to give the gift of Christmas to those who have not heard the Christmas story.

“It will be an intimate and very personal and engaging musical with no actors or dramatic storyline,” said David during a rehearsal at the church.

Since Christmas is also a time for giving, a collection will be held on both nights to raise funds to help those in need.

The church runs various outreach programmes throughout the year.

Among them are the dialysis centre and drug rehabilitation programmes for addicts.

“We are looking for deserving charitable homes that might need financial assistance from the funds that will be raised during the two nights,” David said, adding that the Cantata was a bi-annual event for the church.

The first musical is held on Easter Day.

The hour-long cantata will begin at 8.30pm on both nights. Admission is free. For details, call 03-7956 5986.
